Park owners David Wallis Reeves, of the nationally famous American Brass Band, and John R. Shirley opened the thirteen acre park located on Broad Street on June 24, 1878. Visitors explored the lakes, paths and gardens of this metropolitan playground during summer afternoons and evenings. Guests could ride the Venetian style gondolas, stop for cool treat at the ice cream pagoda, or participate in an amusement called Robinson Crusoe’s Hut. The park closed in 1883.
