History
This building was erected as a public hall and was converted into a theater the next year. The main entrance was on Union Street until a new entrance and lobby was built from Westminster Street in 1882. When a second gallery was constructed the same year, it brought seating capacity to 1,600. The theater name changed to B.F. Keith's Gaiety Opera House in 1889, Keith's New Theatre in 1912, Victory Theatre in 1919, and Empire Theatre in 1935. It was demolished in 1949.
