History

Located across from the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, this theater had a more impressive interior than exterior. The facade was crisscrossed by fire escapes while the interior had features of both a 19th-century opera house and an early 20th-century theater. The name of the theater changed over the years and the quality of the shows and later films degraded. It was last called Capitol Theatre or E.M. Loew’s Capitol Theatre. As part of the 1965 Weybosset Hill redevelopment plan, the theater was demolished to make room for Cathedral Square.
