History

The five-story brick building was built in 1888 for Stanton B. Champlin and his son George, manufacturers of gold rings and chains. It was large enough to provide rental space for other jewelry manufacturers as well. In 1901 the building was enlarged to the south. Stylistically it set the stage for similar buildings nearby. This building is also called the Hedison building after a later owner. This building was converted to condos in 1980. It was the first condo in the state of RI.
