History

This building was once a private residence for Byron Sprague, manufacturer Amasa Sprague's son. Later I. Gifford Ladd bought the dwelling and gave it a French Renaissance exterior. Once Hope Hospital, Bryant College then purchased it. Brown acquired the building in 1969. A music library occupies the 1988 wing. For more information, see Martha Mitchell's Encyclopedia Brunoniana (Brown University Library, 1993).
