History

The Providence Plantations Club, a women's club founded in 1916, acquired this lot in 1923. The building was designed by Andrews, Jones, Briscoe, and Whitmore and included the expected club house facilities as well as swimming pool. Rhode Island's first female architect, Frances E. Henley, was also a member of the Plantations Club, handled the interior design for multiple spaces in the building. When the club no longer needed such a building, Johnson & Wales University took it on in 1962. It is now called Wales Hall and houses a variety of offices and services.
