History

William Bailey built this house in the Italian Villa style in 1850s. In the early 20th century, it was purchased by the local Dominican Order and became the House of the Good Shephard, an institution for "wayward girls." In June 1955, the property was absorbed by Providence College, also an Dominican institution. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It now serves as home to the president of Providence College.
