History
The World War Memorial was designed by Paul P. Cret. It was dedicated on Armistice Day, November 11, 1929. The intersection surrounding it, previously called Post Office Square, was then named Memorial Square. The monument was in storage from 1984 to 1996 while the rivers were being uncovered and relocated. It was then placed in the park across South Main Street from the courthouse.
